Thoughts are decisions

I recently binged Billions because I’m really jonesing for more Succession (any Billions or Succession fans out there–hit me up to discuss…you know I love a dishy fall-from-grace hubris moment).

Anyhoo, in the last season, Mike Prince (who is a weak substitute for Bobby Axelrod IMHO) says this:

“When you decide what you want to feel, that is the true source of power…Most people never figure this out. The ones that do, they get to run the world.”

Most of us spend so much time being whipsawed by our emotions and brutalized by the vicissitudes of life.  We read the newspapers and wring our hands over the state of the world.

But here’s the thing: we can choose what to pay attention to.  We can choose what we think and therefore how we want to feel.

This week’s podcast features the incomparable Trish Tchume who talks about liberation and how the first step towards creating a liberated world starts with liberating ourselves.

What does self-liberation mean?

It means liberating yourself from the stories you tell yourself that make you feel bad, weak or disempowered.

It means telling yourself better stories that spark joy and thanking and releasing stories that don’t serve us.

It means deciding on purpose what you want to think, feel and do.

It means realizing that you have the power in your brain to create your own reality.

It means getting to run the world (or at least your part of the world) however the hell you want.

Check out the episode with Trish.
Also, if you want to learn how to manage your mind around fundraising, check out the Fundraising Accelerator.  It’s the last session of 2022 and if you enroll before June 15, you’ll be invited to a free two hour masterclass for you and your board members about fundraising on June 24, 12-2pm ET.
